The course provides an introduction to diesel engine systems including the differences between diesel engines and gasoline engines, the basic operation of the four-stroke diesel cycle, and the major components of a diesel engine, as well as the supporting systems inscluding lubrication, cooling, fuel supply, glow plugs, engine boose, crankcase ventilation system, Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), engine management, emissions control, and service requirements.
