Origin and evolution of the atmosphere; solar and terrestrial radiation; horizontal and vertical structure of the atmosphere; temperature, pressure and water in the air; vertical motion; cloud formation and cloud type; circulation systems, severe weather, climate and climate change. 3 hrs. lec., 2 hrs. lab. Does not count toward any earth sciences major. Offered in fall, spring and online in summer and winter. Credit may not be received for ESCI 109 if ESCI 107 is taken, these are equivalent courses and will be treated as repeated course credit.
