Description:
This half-semester course is a continuation of the study of illustration beyond the introductory level, specifically the specialty focus on the marriage of image making with the written word as well as data inspired narratives. The emphasis of this course is on the continued professional development of a personal illustration style inspired by a written strategy, manuscript, article, and/or script. Strong conceptual thinking and individual artistic expression will be nurtured. Students are expected to attempt an increased level of conceptual, intellectual, technical sophistication in each successive level. Decisions concerning the effectiveness and point of view will be discussed as it relates to the content, meaning and effectiveness of their work. This course will create opportunities for print and on-line portfolio-based projects including but not limited to the areas of: publishing, visual journalism, visual reportage, self-authorship, and information graphics.
