This course is designed for pre-service teachers in the application of augmentative and alternative communication for students with disabilities in academic settings. Topics of study will include: (1) concepts and terminology related to the field of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC); (2) AAC modalities and categories; (3) AAC vocabulary and symbol selection; and (5) instructional and intervention approaches to provide students with communication needs assess the general education curriculum.
