Description:
Introduces students to the role that the Medical Laboratory Technician plays within the health-care system. This course covers microscopy, a general overview of the departments of the clinical laboratory and laboratory personnel, laboratory safety, infection control. glassware and and equipment, medical terminology, and mathematics as they apply to laboratory science. Students review the skills needed to draw blood and prepare specimens for testing. This course is appropriate for students considering laboratory science as a career. A course fee is required. Pre or Co-requisite: ENGL 101 with a grade of C or higher. PBT 100 must be successfully completed, with a grade of C or higher, within 12 months of enrolling into MLT 100. Non-majors need permission of the Program Director. (FYS)
