Encompasses a comprehensive two-week study of the British criminal justice system - its historical development, operational procedures and policies, and its significance to the American criminal justice system. Students visit the City of London Police, Hendon Police College, the Old Bailey Central Criminal Court, Bow Street Magistrates Court, the Inns of Court, the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom (UK) and a number of other Criminal Justice-related institutions. Lectures are provided at the facilities by faculty and experienced criminal justice practitioners. Additionally, students are able to observe court sessions and English constables on patrol, as well as experience an evening tour of the crime scenes left by the most famous serial killer in history - Jack the Ripper. Visits to the Tower of London, Imperial War Museum, Stonehenge, Westminster Abbey, Warwick Castle, and Canterbury afford students with the opportunity to better comprehend and appreciate English culture and its history as it relates to the criminal justice process. Enrollment is restricted to students in the Criminal Justice AA, the Criminal Justice (PASSHE) AA, and the Police Science AAS programs; or permission of the Instructor. A course fee is required. Prerequisite: Completion of all developmental reading and writing courses required as a result of the College Testing and Placement program.
