An introduction to the historical development of geology as a scientific discipline and an overview of the methods used by geologists to reconstruct the Earth's past history. Studies the rock and fossil record in lecture, lab, and field outcrops to discover how our planet formed, how plate tectonic activity shaped ocean basins and continents, how geologic processes created economic resources, and how the history of life is recorded by ancient rock deposits. Includes required field trips on weekends.Previously offered as GEOS 351 before 2015-16.
