Design, construction, and evaluation of classroom assessment methods and materials are the object of this workshop. The workshop features hands-on practice in clarifying objectives; developing assessment blueprints; constructing objective tests; writing prompts and rubrics for assessing writing, performances, and performance products; writing prompts for self-reflection and affective-domain objectives; and creating portfolio assignments. Other topics covered include principles of sound assessment, choosing appropriate assessment tools, helping poor test takers, analyzing objective test results to improve test items, assessing the validity and reliability of assessment techniques, and selecting a published assessment instrument. Students experience many of the concepts covered by creating their own portfolio of assessment tools, engaging in self-reflection, and using classroom assessment techniques. Recommended for 6-12 educators.
