Description:
This course presents dance as an expression of cultural identity and a way of understanding people of different cultures through their social interaction. Theoretical considerations include dances for a variety of ages and abilities, as well as the origins, characteristics, ethnic sources, and values of dance for a variety of purposes: dance as recreation, as courtship, as a conservation of tradition, and as a medium for change and exchange as a fusion of cultures.
