This course will provide students with an overview of the fole of the Biomedical Equipment Technician and the role of Biomedical Engineering departments in hospitals and the hospital environment in general. Students will learn basic theory of operation, function and clinical application of a range of medical devices, such as infusion pumps, heart monitors, blood pressure monitors, pulse oximeters, suction devices, and centrifuges and how to test these devices for proper operation.
