This seminar will provide students with an opportunity to examine the operation and concerns of local government and non-profit organizations in detail. The focus will be on the challenges caused by rapid population growth and economic development. Students will examine the adequacy of local government and non-profit organizational structures and leadership models. Other topics addressed include land-use policy, taxing practices, advocacy, fundraising, social issues and grant writing. There will be interaction with local government officials and non-profit organization leadership.
