Course Catalog Description. As the number of English Language Learners (ELLs) continues to grow in our public schools there is an increased need for highly qualified teachers to instruct them. This course will be an introduction into the varied theories and practices of teaching English Language Learners. This course will look at some prominent research in the field of second language acquisition and apply it to strategies and best practices used in Pennsylvania, as well as other parts of the country. This course will give students an overview to support effective instruction of students who have a first language other than English.
