An introduction to the hands-on application of chemical principles and concepts as well as an introduction to basic laboratory instrumentation and equipment. First semester topics include practice in making good scientific measurements, density measurement, and several gravimetric and volumetric analyses of known chemical systems. Second semester topics include the study of chemical equilibrium, acid-base chemistry, redox chemistry, inorganic salt synthesis and characterization, and a basic organic synthesis and characterization.
