This course is an introduction to selected concepts that contribute to the foundation of the nursing profession and nursing practice. The individual, environment, health and nursing are the four primary phenomena of concern to the nursing profession. The historical and theoretical basis of nursing professional values and knowledge base are introduced in relationship to the changing health needs of society. The unique contribution of Nursing to health care delivery is explored with emphasis on personal, interpersonal and critical decision making skills inherent in the profession.
