This course provides an examination of modern Lartin America. It focuses on the process of nation-building during the nineteenth century and the rise of reformist, revolutionary and military movements in the twentieth century. The course places emphasis on selected themes such as gender and racial relations, populism, liberalism, revolution, and democracy.
