Description:

Students learn literacy standards and stages of child language development within the context of cultural, linguistic and ability diversity. They learn about use of language for representing and constructing meaning within the Art as a Way of Learning (AWL) framework. Students create and implement standards-based literacy learning experiences and environments using evidence based practices emphasizing Universal Design for Learning. Students assess child learning and build reciprocal partnerships with families and professionals; they use community resources to support child language and literacy growth and development. Weekly field experience hours are required outside of class time. To meet Pennsylvania department of education guidelines, students must have completed clearance paperwork on file with the department.
