introduction to art production in the West from the Renaissance to the early twentieth century. Students learn the basic vocabulary and the basic methodologies necessary to analyze key works from this period and critically engage with issues raised by the course content. Special attention is given to the representation of social relations, gender, religion, and politics; the context in which works of art were produced, used, and displayed. 3 credits Satisfies LAI requirement.
