This course examines the musical history of popular musics from 1900 to the present including styles such as jazz, blues, country, rock and roll, rhythm & blues, rap, hip-hop, and music of various cultures. An emphasis on understanding the cultural context of the composers and music will be provided throughout this course highlighting social and political influences on popular musics.
