Studio course explores the origins of alphabets and writing, and the development, classification and creative use of typefaces in graphic design. Includes hand lettering, basic typography specification and copyfitting, type indication, type personification, computers in typography, and use of type as image and design. Emphasis on creative problem solving through typography. Offered annually. Prereq: ART 133, 142 (ART 240 is suggested but not required).
